Apple is said to have chosen two suppliers to provide batteries for its third generation iPad, which will be thinner and lighter and also 30% more expensive. Simply Technology and Dynapack International Technologies are both informed about the next-generation batteries, according to Taiwan Economic Times, and both companies currently supply batteries for Apple's iPad and MacBook line-up. The report said that the iPad 3 will be largely produced in the first quarter of 2012. The battery is also said to be thinner, lighter, and offers a longer service life than that of the current iPad 2 and also costs 20-30% more than the iPad 2's battery. Both Simply Technology and Dynapack are rumored to start providing Apple with batteries in the fourth quarter of 2011. Last moth, there were many rumors buzzing around that the iPad 3 will be getting retina display. That retina display is expected to be provided by three major suppliers in order to meet the increasing demand for the iPad 2's line-up ; LG Display, Samsung Electronics, and Sharp have all been rumored to be in the supply chain for the retina display in the iPad 3. Also, in August Apple was said to have begun a trial production of an A6 processor. The report claimed that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. as the new manufacturer of the chip. The ARM-based A6 is said to incorporate TSMC's 28-nanometer process and 3D stacking technology. The chipmaker's "silicon interposer" and "bump on trace" methods are also said to be utilized in the next-generation chip, which is scheduled to be finalized in the first quarter of 2012.
